3, 2, 1, happy New Year! Nothing could have kicked off Kendall and Steve’s lifelong journey together quite like ringing in a new year together in Beaver Creek, CO. At Kendall’s family party, the two discovered they were both Boston College graduates living in Boston at the time (though had never met prior to that evening). Kendall and Steve quickly learned that they had a lot in common – including a love for skiing, the outdoors, family, and chocolate chip cookies – and became inseparable pretty soon after.
Four years after they met, Steve got down on one knee in the Sarasota sand and proposed to Kendall. The couple felt certain from that point on that Beaver Creek would be the location of their wedding. It simply held so many special memories for them!
“Beaver Creek was an obvious choice for the wedding celebration, not only because that’s where we met,” Kendall says. “It was also a central spot for my family growing up.”
Their plan was to have a July wedding because of the lush landscape, moderate temperatures and endless activities brought by the Colorado summers. Luckily, Beaver Creek is home to a variety of restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues. Beaver Creek Chapel would host the ceremony, and Spruce Saddle Lodge, which offers fine dining and an elegant setting, would host the reception.
“The only obstacle was coming up with an experience that was very different from the reception for Kendall’s sisters,” Mollie, Kendall’s mother, says.
To help create an extra unique event, the couple hired Jennifer Pletcher of Gemini Event Planning. Kendall’s dream for her special day included an elegant reception space on a Colorado mountaintop with a theme and color scheme influenced by the surrounding pine and Aspen forest.
“We used an abundance of whites and greens in all of the floral arrangements and added a taupe-colored taper candle in hurricane lanterns to bring an earthy tone,” Mollie said. “We chose to use black ballroom chairs to add a touch of elegance – without adding more gold.”
On the day of the wedding, Kendall made her way down the aisle of the lofted, wood-ceiling chapel as Steve marveled at his bride. Following the exchanging of vows, the couple headed to see their expertly designed reception space for the first time.
Filled with white and green floral displays and enchanted greenery, the reception space at Spruce Saddle Lodge gave the impression of walking into a fairytale forest.
“We toasted the bride and groom and danced the night away,” Mollie says.
