As lovers of the outdoors, Elizabeth Byrd and Max Macmaster chose to wed at Saddleridge at Beaver Creek in Colorado. “We wanted to plan as much of the weekend as possible outside and incorporate what Colorado is famous for in the summer,” Elizabeth says. “We tried to bring ivory and white into every decision with a large emphasis on mountain elegance.” Elizabeth learned calligraphy before the wedding and used her newfound skills to handwrite the stationery suite and seating chart. As a personal touch, the couple’s monogram showed up throughout the wedding, including on the menus, invitations and decorative banners. The ceremony took place overlooking the forest and mountains of Colorado, where Elizabeth wore a handmade gown with tulle, lace, hand-beading and a plunging neckline. She carried a bouquet filled with peonies and ranunculus mixed with fresh greens and ferns. “The flowers were glorious and actually made me gasp the morning of our wedding,” Elizabeth says. Max donned a slim-fit tuxedo that matched the wedding’s black-tie dress code. For the reception, guests headed inside to a room with a 40-foot-tall fireplace and taxidermy throughout. The wooden space was dressed up with greenery-filled arrangements, rustic chandeliers and whimsical touches—including calligraphed tambourines that marked place settings.
Our favorite #MakeTradition Moment: “There was an open-air balcony in our venue, and Max and I went up and hid out as our guests entered the lodge,” Elizabeth says. “We got a secret aerial view of our guests ‘oohing’ and ‘ahhing’ as they entered our reception, and we couldn’t stop giggling and pinching ourselves. It was a great way to kick off the evening.”
