Growing up in the 70’s and 80’s, my vision of a bride always included a huge cascading bouquet. Princess Di donned an impressively large and regal bouquet, continuing this trend. Then Martha Stewart took over the wedding scene ….and the 90’s brought forth the round tight bouquet featured in most modern weddings. These “round mound” bouquets are gorgeous. And since I have only been in the wedding business for 20 years, it is primarily what I have seen in my day!
From a design standpoint, however, they can be created by a rookie in the floral biz. Fortunately, we now find ourselves with a new wedding trend. The return of the cascade, with a modern twist! If approached correctly, choosing a cascade bouquet will set you ahead of this amazing trend-to-be! Choosing the right florist is key: one who understands negative space, balance and has the right tools. There are several new and more modern “holders” (what you will be holding as you walk down the aisle serves the dual purpose of the designer’s oasis). In the hands of a great designer, this platform serves as an armature for exciting designs that are graceful and induce movement. No more massive, heavy cascades of the past that covered the brides dress and weigh her down! This is an exciting trend that allows for more diversity of material and texture. This will only enhance your creativity as a bride….allowing you to be UNIQUE IN STYLE!
